Wow… the 17 May edition of The Paul Duane Show was such a great time! We moved into an excellent new venue ( The Complex ), we had an incredible lineup of talent on the show, and we did a Best Legs Contest.
The Complex is a wonderful concert venue in downtown SLC, located right behind the Gateway Mall. It’s easy to have dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants at The Gateway, then walk over to The Complex for the show. Their production staff was super helpful and really helped bring a new level of professionalism to the show.
The sound and lights are top quality, and we’ve got a bigger stage. The audience enjoys cozy seating on dozens of black leather sofas. There’s a full service bar in the back of the room, and they also serve pizza with a great crisp crust.
Singer / songwriter Katie Ainge performed some wonderful pre-show entertainment. By the time Katie took the stage, the seating was mostly full. She played to an appreciative audience for about 20 minutes.
The show kicked off with some awesome intro music provided by our featured house band of the night, Oh, Be Clever.
I took the stage for my monologue and then welcomed up our first guest, Kara Arnold, the current Miss Utah and Miss America contestant.
Following Miss Utah, Fox 13 Weekend Anchorwoman Nineveh Dinha joined us on stage. Aside from being a stunning beauty (she’s both Assyrian and Swedish, go figure), Nineveh has serious reportage chops, being the recipient of an Edward R Murrow award for spot journalism. Featured house band Oh, Be Clever then took the stage. Oh, Be Clever is an electro-pop duo comprised of singer Britney Sheilds and producer Cory Layton. They amount of energy and sound they create together is staggering.
Following an intermission and another awesome performance by Oh, Be Clever, filmmaker Richard Dutcher came on for an interview. We talked about his new film, The Boys At The Bar, and the production team, Project 23, that is responsible for it’s creation.
After Dutcher’s interview, we had a Best Legs Contest, which was sponsored by Shapings.com, a perveyor of fine European hosiery. Nine gorgeous girls (and one … shall we say, sweet spirit) came on stage, each of them wearing some very nice pantyhose provided by Shapings.com. (Ladies, if you have never tried really high quality European hosiery, you have every right to think that you hate wearing pantyhose. The Exclusive 10’s that Shapings sent us are luxurious and probably less expensive than what you have bought at the mall in the past). The winner of the contest, Erin Western, received a $100 voucher from Shapings.com. Product placement has never looked so sexy.
Check out a video of the Best Legs contest:
I recruited a friend to do a quick filming of the May show. The production quality is obviously not remotely close to what we will put out once we are officially filming and releasing episodes, this video is merely intended to give you a look inside the venue during an actual show:
If you attended the May 17th show, would you mind taking 2 minutes to fill out this survey and share your opinion on the last show? It’s completely anonymous, as we want you to feel comfortable being honest and providing your genuine thoughts.
