New Band Project

My most recent band

(currently disbanded): The Toros

My next project:

I’m seeking musicians to create a band that does a dark take on the trip-hop genre.  Think Thievery Corporation + a little bit of Tool. Not much… just the ability for the band to crescendo into something huge, dark, roaring and heavy for a few moments, in the midst of a sick ass groove.

For those of you that don’t know me, I’m a bass player.  I’m seeking the following kinds of musicians:

Drummer: groove oriented, happy to play deep in the pocket and keep it rock steady. This band will never be about big Neil Peart-esque drum fills. Just keep it solid and keep them dancing.

Guitar:  I want a guitarist that can say more by letting an arpeggiated chord ring out for 3 measures than Yngwie Malmsteen can say in 7 minutes of shredding.  Tone, painting soundscapes, filling out the space with ethereal, haunting notes… that’s what this band needs from you.

Electronic: I don’t really know all of the ins and outs of the electronic music world, all I know is this: I’d like someone that can play keyboard parts, trigger samples, and ideally, be able to bust out some serrato / scratch live and rock some turntables.

Vocals: Somewhere in the realm of Poe, Maynard James Keenan, Amy Lee (Evanescence), Chibi (The Birthday Massacre),  and maybe even a dash of Zach De la Rocha. If said vocalist can also play keys / guitar / anything else, that will be a HUGE plus. I want to keep the number of people in the band to a minimum.

Electric Violin: Might use an electric violinist in lieu of, or in addition to, a keyboardist.  I think this could be really cool.

Musically, here are a few examples of what I’m thinking. I’m not proposing to play these songs, per se, but these songs do have elements that I want to incorporate into the new band’s sound:

Sour Grapes by Puscifer:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd_GH_hAILQ

Chaos: by Mutemath: http://youtu.be/mjcTXVpiRns

Passive by A Perfect Circle: http://youtu.be/noppzEtbDwM

I’ve had a lot of people get excited at the thought of hearing a band like this actually happen. If you are a music fan that just wants to hear this when it comes together, contact me, and I’ll keep you in the loop.  If you are a musician that shares this vision and wants to make this happen – contact me.

Best –

Paul Duane
